Vision, Mission and Goals

VISION

Lewis speech-language pathologists will work hand in hand with families, educators, and health care providers to offer compassionate, holistic care to people with communication and swallowing disorders.  Upholding the dignity of all people, they will enhance their ability to dialogue, learn and work in association with one another.

MISSION

SLP students will dedicate themselves to the highest ethical and practice standards of the discipline of speech-language pathology.  They will distinguish themselves as transformative, culturally informed, and socially responsible clinicians.  They will advance the discipline by helping others understand the devastating impact of communication and swallowing disorders, identifying underserved populations, and forging new pathways to meet their needs.

GOALS

The Online M.S. in SLP Program at 木瓜影院 will prepare Lewis SLPs who are transformative, culturally informed and socially responsible. The following ten (10) Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs) help us to define and track the desired skills of the Lewis SLP.  Graduates will become:

Transformative SLPs who:

  1. Practice person-centered care.
  2. Demonstrate a range of professional knowledge and skills.
  3. Consider science, clinician experience and client opinion in treatment planning.
  4. Model ethical practices at all times.
  5. Reflect on their professional experiences.

Culturally informed SLPs who:

  1. 聽Use best practices in assessing and treating communication differences and disorders.
  2. Engage relevant communities to bring about change.
  3. Approach and treat all people with dignity.

Socially responsible SLPs who:

  1. Advocate for the basic human right to communicate.
  2. Challenge dominant discourse that poses barriers for people with communication disorders or differences.聽
