Twelve ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº students have returned from the Netherlands, where they completed the .

The Travel Study course was led by Dr. Hannah Klein, assistant professor of justice, law and public safety studies, and Dr. Rachel Wells, assistant professor of social work. This unique program offered an in-depth exploration of how the United States and the Netherlands approach crime, justice and prevention.

Highlights of the travel component of the undergraduate course included

  • Tours and lectures at key locations - Peace Palace, International Criminal Court, International Court of Justice
  • Unique cultural experiences - Visits to the Cannabis College, Anne Frank House, and the Dutch Resistance Museum

Students gained an in-depth understanding of the nations' differing policies, practices, and procedures. Through lectures, discussions, and analysis, students examined the social, cultural, and international political factors that shape these systems.

The program kicked off in Romeoville, Ill., with an exploration of international courts, justice systems, and humanitarian efforts. Students then embarked on a travel study experience to the Netherlands, where they gained firsthand insights into the Dutch criminal justice system.

Students participating in the travels included Elizabeth Adelman, Sarah Bourell, Julianna Henrichs, Sebastian Ligenza, Byron Kelly, Giselle Mendoza, Priscilla Najera, Angel Rubio, Hailey Russo, Aliana Sawall, Katie Scears and Ayden Trotter.

The Comparative Criminal Justice Systems course is a valuable resource for students pursuing careers in law enforcement, criminal justice, social work, and related fields. The course is a faculty-led, group travel, study abroad program.
