Published: February 12, 2024.

For the second year in a row, Lasallian Universities Center for Education in Rome, Italy has a record enrollment of ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº students living and studying in Rome. Twenty-four students from 14 majors and four colleges are participating in the LUCE Rome Program for the Spring 2024 semester.

The students are studying and experiencing a cultural immersion as they live and study in the Generalate, the motherhouse of the global De La Salle Christian Brothers network headquartered in Rome, Italy. Also, the students are enjoying expanded course offerings from the College of Business and the Social Work programs.

Leveraging Rome's rich historical and cultural landscape, the program includes educational excursions to Florence, Naples, Barcelona, and other significant sites, transforming these cities into dynamic classrooms. The curriculum is designed to enrich students' academic and personal growth, featuring courses such as Italian Language, Italy Today, and Art Appreciation. These three-credit-hour courses fulfill general education requirements and are taught by local Italian faculty.

This year, Drs. Scott A. Kerth and Ellen Thursby are co-directing the program, overseeing academics and student services.

Kerth and Thursby will teach two courses in the program. Kerth will teach “Introduction to International Business and Basic Macro Economics”, with Dr. Natalia Boliari, a guest lecturer from Manhattan College. Thursby is teaching “Social Welfare Policy and Diversity and Social Justice”.

Dr. Dennis Cremin, history professor and director of ľ¹ÏÓ°Ôº History Center, and Dr. Joanne Kuttner, director of Engaging Stories, are continuing with the program both teaching hybrid courses in Rome and online.
