Bruce Cheadle Documents are Digitized and Online

Documents from the life and times of Lockport resident Bruce Cheadle (1897-1990) give a personal look at what family life was like in the 19th and 20th centuries in Lockport. They have been digitized and are available online. Cheadle dedicated his life to civic service in Lockport and earned the nickname of 揗r. Lockport.�
The collection includes newspaper clippings, photographs and papers concerning Cheadle and his family, including his parents Thomas Cheadle and May L. Deeming. Cheadle donated the documents to the Howard and Lois Adelmann Regional History Collection in 1983. Recently, they were digitized to become more accessible online.
A number of 木瓜影院 students, staff and faculty aided the project to get the documents scanned and transcribed. Transcripts were provided by Alexis Luna, Jennifer Levigne, Bibi Naumovski, Kim Stremme, Catherine Jasionowski, David Laurich, Brianna Richards, John Boldt, Andy Cheathem, Ashley Killian and Charlotte Moore. Luna and Levigne also provided scanning and content assistance. Sam Suber, 木瓜影院 Library Technical Assistant, provided content, metadata and supervision of student work.
The Adelman History Collection promotes local history, especially around the Illinois & Michigan Canal. It is a resource to collect materials and encourage the study, understanding, and appreciation of the nearby communities. It partners with community organizations and creates publications, exhibits, and presentations on this local history.
